The reality is that we don't all have amazing skin and that's OK, because we're not all going to have amazing skin. You might think that from my stand point - blessed to have never had pimples/acne - that I don't have the slightest clue on what it feels like to struggle with problematic skin. False. I have skin problems of my own and I don't always get complimented for my skin - Mostly my smile and dimples.
I know a handful of babes who go all out in watching YouTube tutorials of skin-care routines, featuring babes with the most amazing skin obtained from oats/fruit masks, skin-oils and a handful of beauty products. I feel like there are unspoken skin-care tips that people don't realise when it comes to finding the perfect skin-care routine for themselves.
1. NOT ALL SKIN IS PERFECT AND THAT'S OKAY ✌
There are babes out there who have not-so-perfect skin and no matter how many skin-care routines/masks and products they use, they see no difference. I can imagine how frustrating this might be but stressing over your not-so perfect skin doesn't help one bit. Accepting that your skin is not the best of the best is the first step to anything really.
Not all skin is perfect and that's okay. Contrary to the beauty industry's belief, all skin is beautiful. ❤
I know how gorgeous skin-care sets are and how easily we can fall into the trap of buying one - not saying its a trap. Spare your wallet. Skin-care routines are not about skin sets, but rather finding what works for your skin and these might range from a variety of brands and products. Better to have a skin-care set with different products from different ranges than one where only one thing works for your skin.
I'm not saying that it won't work at all, it might be working for you right now. Something we need to remember though, is that not all skin is alike and what works for me or someone else might not necessarily work for you. Also, not every product from your favorite range is going to work well for you, this is why I say switch it up. Again, maybe every product does work for you. In that case , Keep it up 😉
3. YOU DON'T NEED A DOZEN SKIN-CARE PRODUCTS 👀
Quality over Quantity... Always.
Cliche, I know but, most people don't realise it. A quality product is better than a dozen products. Even if you have complex skin problems chances are you probably only need 1-2 skin-care products. Debunk the myth that you need a face mask, a cleanser, a skin-purifier and etc-etc. There is beauty in simplicity. So please, next time you're in the Johnson's isle, don't get everything that's on the shelf.
4. WE ALL HAVE SKIN PROBLEMS OF OUR OWN 💁
I have very dry skin so you can imagine the amount of blemishes I obtain when summer transitions into winter, the dry patches of skin on my face which take forever to remedy and in summer, a heat rash ensues because of all the pollen in the air. All of this is horrible to me. It's my version of the worst skin problem ever.
Literally, no one is perfect. So, if you tend to compare your skin to someone else's, bear in mind that they probably have skin problems of their own that they aren't public about or that you don't see.
Remember that Instagram is only a reflection of the good in peoples life annnd it's curated.
5. UNLESS YOU CAN AFFORD A DERMATOLOGIST... TRIAL & ERROR 💅
No one wants to trial and error when it comes to their skin and rightly so. Unfortunately though, if you want to find something that works for you, you've got to trial and error. Of course to minimise side-effects, don't use shady products (I mean those skin-lighting creams people buy on the side of the road) and take the time to get to know your skin. Knowing your skin can help you in your search to find something that works well.
If you can afford a dermatologist, then by all means go. This is probably the most safest method of finding something that works for you and will probably produce better results, quicker than trial and error. A consultation costs about R700 - this is without having bought what the doctor pesrcibes.
Overall, love your skin. You cannot expect your skin to glow if you'Re only feeding your body with toxic junk food. Hydrate, channel positivity and eat a little healthier to get better results.

I couldn't agree more on this. Each skin has to to literally weather internal and external factors everyday. I personally believe a good SPF, moisturiser and Bio Oil is key.
